Hexagram Sixty Two

Hsiao Kuo (Pro: Shee-au Gwor; but with the final ‘r’ not pronounced) - Aiming Low

When the seeds are planted there must be a period of inactivity. Being too forceful on the land will endanger the tender shoots.

It is not time to be powerful or push to start new ventures. It is the season to wait as the tree does in the winter. To unfold its leaves in the cold would be to difficult and dangerous. To form buds in quiet patience leads to great reward.

The hexagram signifies that the ordinary, the lowly, are now in a position to do well. Being strong, superior, clever is not rewarded in this issue. Aiming high does not meet with reward.

Success comes through getting on with everyday life without ostentation; through leaving the doors open so the normal flow of events can bring to you what is needed. Success does not arrive at this point by going after it aggressively, or trying to make it happen by grand schemes. The reason being that although there is a great energy to advance and grow, there is a lot of opposition to this in the hexagram.

There is a hint that one may be in a situation that is almost asking too much of ones personal resources. This is why there should be no striving to fly high. This would expose ones inadequacy and lead to misfortune. But success can in fact be achieved by giving of ones best in the situation.

Key words: Do what is needed well. Refrain from flying high. Have a spirit of veneration.

The Moving Lines

1.Leaving home, doing your own thing, being independent or headstrong will not lead to good fortune in this issue. You are not ready yet.

2.In exceptional circumstances protocol will be relaxed. The very nature of the issue makes it difficult to go further.

3.Do not foolishly ignore the danger of your situation. With care the danger can be avoided by being prepared for such attacks.

4.Now is not the time for confrontations. There is no need to be conciliatory, but avoid meeting head on. There is too much vulnerability to advance actively on this course.

5.Many promises are on the horizon, and it appears as if something long wanted is on its way, but it passes. To support the greatness of this issue, seek support from those who have achieved much.

6.Things are sliding away. To continually fly too high has led to great difficulties. There is real danger. If anything is to be made of this descent, try to get off before the basement.

Hexagram Sixty Three

Chi Chi (Pro: Jee Jee) - After Completion

When a flower is blooming it has reached its peak, and yet its glory is already set to fade. When it does so, it will form seeds for a new cycle to start.

All that was in one to do in now reaching fruition. There is nothing left, and yet this is not the time to relax vigilance.

The image of the hexagram is a kettle hung over a fire. This is an excellent relationship as long as one makes sure the fire is not too hot, or that the kettle doesn’t put out the fire when it boils.

Therefore one must still keep in place the care that brought this issue to the completion it is now reaching.

There is an ending which must be allowed to all things. As the old falls apart, allow the spirit of the new to unfold. Rebirth can follow. There must be patience to allow the seeds of what is dead to grow into their new form. In the hiatus between do not force the issue.

Whatever it is in the query that has reached completion, it cannot remain in that state for long. Life forever moves into the next cycle. Therefore enjoy the success and pleasure of reaching fulfilment. But in doing so recognise that as the cycle moves forward, there will be a need to work with whatever is involved toward a fading and a rebirth. Perseverance is needed.

There are tremendous possibilities of change involved. The art of succeeding is to recognise in which direction the new form will emerge.

Key words: Completion approaches. Success. In the height of success, do not drop the quality of care.

The Moving Lines

1.Do not be carried along precipitously by the crowd. Slow down. There may be slight inconvenience, but nothing more.

2.The new order may cause confusion in which you feel overlooked. Do not join the circus to advertise oneself. Maintain your standard quietly. Quality attracts quality.

3.Do not undertake this difficult campaign in new territory unless you are highly qualified and persistent. It will be a long involvement, gruelling even if you have the strength.

4.Amidst apparent beauty or quality, signs of shoddiness appear. Be cautious and check first impressions carefully.

5.Roasting an ox might profit us less than cooking a chicken if the latter is given in the right way. The importance of sincerity is everything in this issue. In any event, good fortune.

6.Don’t stop to look back and admire ones prowess. It is important to press on.

Hexagram Sixty Four

Wei Chi (Pro: Way Jee) - Becoming.

As the twig is bent so the tree grows.

This is a period of formation when all that is done and thought influences the development of things. From stagnation you are moving in this issue toward powerful growth. Recognise the responsibility of shaping events.

There are many directions possible. Choose carefully. In mid- stream do not be too eager to reach the far bank by having firm destinations. Like an old fox, watch every sign in order to choose ones direction. Work with the forces of creation and honour the directions innate in each thing as you create your world.

Light is dawning, but it is twilight and things still cannot be seen clearly. So do not rush forward at shadows. Go slowly and let the dawn come fully.

In relationships let time pass to determine where growth together will lead, and what will blossom from togetherness.

Although success is indicated, the issue is still only in the beginning of progressing. Like crossing a river a great deal of uncertainty lies between now and getting to the far bank. But you are moving across so success is in sight. So go slowly and complete the crossing.

The materials for success are at hand, but they must be put into the correct relationship.

Key words: Formation. The possibility of creating a new world. Take care in this.

The Moving Lines

1.Don’t be tempted to rush ahead when there is so much opportunity here. Take in the situation carefully and watch for the right moment.

2.The brakes were put on just in time to avoid a mistake. Now take time to go forward with more care and make the crossing.

3.Although there was not sufficient strength to continue in this issue of change, gather strength and gain help from others. Then perseverance will be rewarded.

4.Although gruelling hard work is needed it is worthwhile in this issue as success can be achieved. Persist, perhaps over years in taming the situation, and it will be rewarded.

5.Success has arrived. The way is justified. The new era brings support and growth. Recognition allows one to flourish.

6. Enjoy the fruits of success with friends. But take care not to let pleasure become indulgence lest the higher success of trust is lost.
